Justice for International Crimes as a Result of Russian Aggression: Position of Judges, Veterans and Demand of the Ukrainian Population

In the context of the ongoing international armed conflict with the Russian Federation since 2014 and as a result of a new stage of Russian aggression in February 2022, thousands of international crimes are being committed on the territory of Ukraine, and ensuring effective investigation of the vast majority of them remains a challenge for the national law enforcement and justice systems. As of April 2022 alone, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (hereinafter - the PGO) reports about 80,000 proceedings on international crimes since February 20221 . Tens of thousands more criminal proceedings are being considered by law enforcement agencies and courts as a result of Russia's occupation of the Crimean peninsula and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014.
