On4 June , at 15.00, the online conference "Preliminary analysis of legal and environmental consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station " will be held, during which the Coalition "Ukraine. Five in the Morning" Coalition will present an analytical report of the same name.
On 6 June 2023, the Russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. The destruction of the dam was one of the largest environmental disasters in Europe in the twenty-first century, and it is the result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The consequences of this catastrophe will be felt for decades and will affect several generations of people in Ukraine and the entire Azov-Black Sea region.
The seizure of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in the first days of the full-scale invasion, the preparation and consequences of the explosion are a violation of many international legal norms. What has Ukraine done in the year since this crime was committed? What are the environmental consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station? What is the international legal qualification of the actions of the parties to the armed conflict, and what are the possibilities of bringing the perpetrators to justice under the Rome Statute of the ICC and the Criminal Code of Ukraine? The authors of the report will analyse this issue.
